In this month’s episode of the Together Podcast, Natalie Morris—Webb, of Malthouse Vets—joins PetsApp pack lead Thom for a powerful and heartfelt conversation about the future of veterinary care. This episode is a must-listen for any clinic leader, practice owner, or team member who believes in the value of independence, community, and care that goes beyond the bottom line.
Natalie opens up about the importance of advocating for your local veterinary community—not just for your practice, but for the people and pets who rely on you. As larger corporates continue to scale and standardise, independent teams have a unique opportunity to lead with values, create deep local ties, and tailor their care around community needs.
Natalie and her mentors believe passionately that there’s no single blueprint for a successful veterinary practice. In fact, embracing diversity in practice models - from traditional consult setups to more flexible, wellness-led clinics—is the key to meeting both your client and team needs.
"We're kind of lucky where we are. We've got a real mixed bag of practices. We're just south of Shrewsbury, so I don't know, they're probably about 70% corporate now, but we've also got a few independents and a few mixed practices as well, really traditional mixed practices. So, I think our client base are quite lucky that they have choice."

Whether you’re part of a large, corporate group, a mobile vet, a solo start-up, or a multi-location clinic, there’s room to thrive. The key is aligning your goals with your model and staying true to your team’s mission.
One of the standout strategies Natalie advocates for is the use of wellness plans with unlimited consultations. Not only do they give pet owners peace of mind and promote more proactive care, but they also provide stability for the business.
"We feel quite strongly that we want to be our client's first port of call. We're in a time now where we're probably the third or fourth point of contact they make and obviously we have PetsApp and we have a more digital approach now which definitely helps because people just don't want to pick up the phone anymore do they but even to get to that point sometimes I think there's that anxiety of then booking in for a consultation... I think removing that barrier for us and increasing the bonding with our client is quite important."
-Natalie Morris-Webb
Speaking candidly, Natalie explains why We Are Spartacus has been trending recently across various veterinary platforms, why local veterinary teams need to make sure that they are clued up over the current argument over the use of the term 'Pet Health Club' and how the wider community can come together to help support and resolve the issue.
